Rome bus bursts into flames in city centre

12th Rome passenger bus to catch fire while in service this year.

An ATAC city bus burst into flames on Via del Tritone in central Rome on the morning of 8 May, leading to the evacuation of the nearby Rinascente department store.
There were no injuries in the fire which is the 12th such incident involving the fleet of Rome's troubled public transport company since the start of this year.

Via del Tritone has been closed to traffic in both directions as an investigation is carried out into how the vehicle - reportedly in service since 2003 - caught fire. See related article.
