AS Roma secure historic victory in Rome

AS Roma oust Barcelona to reach Champions League semi-finals.

Euphoric AS Roma football fans took to the streets of Rome to celebrate their club's historic 3-0 victory over Barcelona at the Stadio Olimpico on the evening of 10 April.
The game saw AS Roma reverse a three-goal deficit from the first leg in the knock-out stages to reach the Champions League semi-finals. The result was one of the Rome club's greatest victories as well one of the biggest surprise comebacks in the history of Europe's premier club competition.
Goals from man-of-the-match Edin Dzeko, captain Daniele De Rossi and defender Kostas Manolas ensured AS Roma progressed through to the semi-finals on away goals.
Before kick-off it seemed almost impossible for AS Roma to oust heavy favourites Barcelona. AS Roma now advances to the last four of Europe’s premier competition for the first time since 1984.
In scenes not witnessed in Rome since AS Roma won the "Scudetto" Serie A league title in 2001, fans reacted wildly to the result, partying throughout the night. The club's chairman James Pallotta also joined in the euphoria by jumping into the fountain at Piazza del Popolo.
