4-26 Sept 2004. This is a high-profile event with a truly interesting and varied programme of multicultural concerts and recitals. Venues are scattered all over the city, and the events are divided into different sections including multimedia, Arvo Part, dance, music and theatre from the southern Indian region of Kerala and Gong 2004. As usual, big names participate, including those of Sir Colin Davis with the London Symphony Orchestra, Richard Galliano, Zubin Mehta and many others.
Ute Lemper will perform on 24 Sept, at the Lingotto Auditorium. One of the most eclectic personages of today, she sings music from pop to jazz, encompassing popular Jewish and Arabic songs. At the Conservatory, Pierre Boulez, one of the most important composers and conductors of our times, will perform his own music and that of Luciano Berio, to whose memory the concert is dedicated (25 Sept). The programme includes the "Folk Songs" which are re-developments of popular themes (but some were purpose-written), that Berio wrote for his wife Cathy Berberian in 1964.
