17-25 May 2003. Conducted by Bruno Campanella, directed by Donato Renzetti, with Mariella Devia, Vincenzo La Scola and Michele Pertusi.
The theme of this opera of 1843 is the Risorgimento which also inspired Verdis Nabucco of the previous year. The work was a success in spite of criticism that it lacked inspiration. Its many beautiful passages include Giseldas touching prayer in the first act and the splendid trio with solo violin in the third act. This production promises to be interesting thanks to the experience of conductor Bruno Campanella and the quality of the cast: Mariella Devia, Vincenzo La Scola and Michele Pertusi. Paolo Di Nicola.
