Museum Night in Rome on 20 May

Rome's museums and academies open late on Saturday night.

Notte dei Musei returns on Saturday 20 May, involving the opening of state, municipal and private-run museums, galleries, monuments and archaeological sites in Rome, from 20.00 until as late as 02.00 in many cases, with last entry at 01.00.

There is a “symbolic” €1 ticket price which includes performances of live music, theatre and dance. Certain venues, such as participating foreign academies, are completely free.

Highlights include the late opening of the Basquiat exhibition at Chiostro del Bramante; live music at the Stanze d'artista show at Rome's municipal art gallery on Via Francesco Crispi; live electronic music at MACRO on Via Nizza which currently hosts Cross the Streets, a show dedicated to four decades of street art; and ambient music at the Spartacus exhibition at the Ara Pacis museum.

There are late openings at the American Academy in Rome, with its freshly-inaugurated Charles Ray exhibition; the Egyptian Academy with its exhibition relating to the life of Pharaoh Tutankhamon; and the French Academy at Villa Medici with its exhibition of work by Yoko Ono and Claire Tabournet.

This is the ninth year that Italy has been involved in Museum Night which has taken place annually across Europe since 2005.
