Foreigners from outside the European Union (EU) who are resident elsewhere in Italy but who are studying or working in Rome have until 26 October to register in the electoral list to vote for the new representatives to the city and municipal councils. Voters will be going to the polls on 10 December to choose new councillors who will represent the voice of extracomunitari in Rome: four for the city (representing the continents of Africa, Asia and Oceania, the Americas and non-EU Europe) and 12 for the municipi. The citys mayor, Walter Veltroni, instigated the inclusion of such representation on councils in the city in 2004. People from outside the EU who do have residency in the city will automatically be inserted in the electoral list. For more information see www.comune.roma.it.
