Bernini's elephant obelisk vandalised in Rome

Tusk snapped off Bernini obelisk in Rome centre.

Rome's Elephant and Obelisk sculpture designed by Gian Lorenzo Bernini was vandalised in the early hours of 14 November.

A tusk detached from the 17th-century elefantino in Piazza della Minerva was recovered nearby, meaning restoration should be possible.

Police are now studying closed circuit television footage to find those responsible for the vandalism of the much-loved sculpture which was unveiled in 1667.
