30 June-10 July. In Giselle, choreography by Patrice Bart. The performance chosen to open the summer season in the magnificent setting provided by the Baths of Caracalla is the ballet Giselle, staring one of the great ballerinas of our times: Svetlana Zhakarova. Considered one of the great Romantic ballets, Giselle was first performed in Paris in 1841. Originally choreographed by Jean Coralli and Jules Perrot, the modern productions we see today are based on the choreography by Marius Petipa for the Imperial Ballet. Giselle is one of the real showpieces of classical ballet: steeped in history, aesthetically beautiful, and full of demanding dancing. Make sure Zhakarova is dancing when you buy your tickets as casts rotate.
