Balletto del Teatro alla Scala. 6-8 Nov. 2003. In Don Quixote, music by Minkus, choreography by Rudolf Nureyev. With Laetitia Pujol, Jos Manuel Carreno, Roberto Bolle. Nureyev staged his Don Quixote in 1966 for the Vienna Opera and danced the mischievous young barber showing a side of his character which had not yet been revealed: a puckish sense of fun. Building on the Petipa version, he invented new numbers and additions the comic duel between the tottery old Knight and the foppish Gamache, for example. Gradually, he changed the order of the dances and added an important section, a romantic pas de deux beneath the old windmill.
