Giovani artisti allOpera. 12-20 Nov. 2003 In Coppelia, music by Delibes, choreography adapted for the Teatro dellOpera ballet school. The performance marks the 75th anniversary of the Teatro dellOperas ballet school, currently directed by Paola Jorio, and sees the pupils of the school on the stage as the protagonists and the corps de ballet of the show. Coppelia has long remained one of the jewels of the classical repertoire, and it represents one of the few true comedies of the genre. Some also argue that Coppelia represents the first "feminist" ballet, breaking with the romantic tradition of the female heroine as an otherworldly creature and replacing it with a witty, earthy woman who knows how to get her way with a womanising fianc.
