American visitor in breach of Rome's strict drone ban.
A 37-year-old US tourist was detained by Rome police for flying a drone over the Pantheon on 27 August.
The visitor was charged with violating the ban on flying drones in the capital and his device was confiscated by police.
The incident follows the flying of a drone over the Vatican in recent days, however - despite an extensive police search using a helicopter - the drone and its operator disappeared without a trace.
The ban on using remote-controlled aircraft in Rome was introduced in November 2015 in preparation for the Vatican's Holy Jubilee Year of Mercy.
