Rome’s JPII statue vandalised
On-site restoration work on the statue of Blessed John Paul II in Piazza Cinquecento is taking place on 3 October after it was vandalised on 1 October. The statue, the work of master sculptor Oliviero Rainaldi and situated in front of Termini train station, was defaced with a large black five-pointed star. Due to the work being made of bronze, removing the image will be a delicate process.
An investigation is currently underway to try and identify the vandal. Rome
