Rome high on tourists' list.

The Travel and Leisure Magazine annual survey has rated Rome as the second best city in Europe, placing it behind Florence and ahead of Istanbul, Paris, and Krakow. The results also name Rome as the seventh best city in the world behind Bangkok, Buenos Aires, Cape Town, Sydney, Florence, and Cuzco (Peru), and ahead of New York, Istanbul, and San Francisco.

It is the 13th annual survey that the American magazine Travel and Leisure has given to its readers worldwide in order to let them decide the best cities, hotels, islands, airlines and so on. In voting for cities readers are asked to consider a variety of factors including location, culture, people, food, and things to do.

The poll results bring both good and bad news for Italian tourism. On one hand, they confirm that Florence and Rome have maintained their position as well-loved cities, especially in Europe where they take the top two spots. On the other hand, they show that their popularity is dropping in the worldwide category with Florence moving from first to fourth spot and Rome from fourth to seventh.

The hotel voted the best in Rome is the Hotel Hassler next to Trinit
