Rome charities R(home) for Refugees and Levantiamo serve Syrian dinner.
Rome-based charity R(home) for Refugees (RfR) is hosting a benefit night for refugees in Rome and Syria on Saturday 3 December, from 19.30, at St Stephen's School in the city's S. Saba district.
Titled Feed Your Humanity, the event will feature a traditional Syrian dinner provided by Levantiamo, the culinary fund-raising initiative for Syria, and is designed to raise funds and awareness about the refugee crisis in Europe and conflict in Syria.
In addition to sampling Syrian cuisine, guests can listen to the stories of refugees who are registered as official asylum-seekers in Rome. Tickets cost €30, or €50 for two, and all profits go towards helping refugees to rebuild their lives in Rome, and for displaced Syrians living in the makeshift Ain Dara Refugee camp near Aleppo.
A student talent show precedes the dinner, featuring acts by international students from the American Overseas School of Rome (AOSR) and St Stephen’s. Proceeds from the talent show will go towards the tuition costs for a local Afghan refugee to complete an internationally-recognised high school equivalency programme.
RfR is a Rome-based charity which seeks to create alternative solutions to the urgent housing and unemployment crisis facing urban refugees in Rome, while Levantiamo's team of Syrian cooks organises social events promoting Syrian culture and food, raising money to help Syrians inside the country.
Tickets for Feed Your Humanity can be booked at RhomeforRefugees@gmail.com.
