Roman Pride
Gay Pride week in Rome opens on Sat 27 June. There will be seven days of music, cinema, theatre, and conferences along the Tiber Bank between Porta Portese and the Isola Tiberina. The annual Gay Pride parade takes place on Sat 5 July down Via Cavour, along Via dei Fori Imperiali to the Colosseum, then on to Circo Massimo and Piazza Venezia. It was this parade that generated the ire of the Vatican in 2000 because it was thought unfitting for homosexuals to parade through the streets of the Eternal City during the millennium holy year.
