New rules for pontifical elections.

Pope Benedict XVI has changed the rules for electing future heads of the Catholic Church in an effort to guarantee a wider consensus among the cardinals. Previously, a two-thirds majority was required to elect a new pontiff in a ballot vote held in the Sistine Chapel among all cardinals of the Catholic Church
