Matta
This is mostly work from the last years of the veteran surrealist Roberto Matta. He was extraordinarily productive right up to his death in November last year. Here, giant scenes like theatre backdrops, thinly painted in his typical soft-drink or neon-light colours, reveal his unusual science fiction world. Bug-eyed, toothy creatures frolic with mischievous energy over swirly vaporous clouds in a never-never land that might well be a jolly outer space.
