The American University in Rome: Chaucer in Italy

Rome lecture will examine Chaucer's encounter with Italian culture.

1 April. The American University in Rome in conjunction with the University of Kent Rome School of Classical and Renaissance Studies present Chaucer in Italy, a lecture by Prof. Peter Brown, on 1 April.

Geoffrey Chaucer (1343-1400) visited Italy twice on diplomatic missions, and modelled a significant number of his narratives on works by Dante, Boccaccio, and Petrarch, long before these writers were 'discovered' during the English Renaissance.

This lecture will consider Chaucer's encounter with Italian culture and how it prompted a rebirth of his creative outlook.

Chaucer expert Peter Brown is professor of English Mediaeval Literature at the University of Kent and academic director of its Paris School of Arts and Culture.

To register your attendance at the event, which takes place at 17.00 in the Auriana Auditorium of The American University of Rome, see website.
