Candido Portinari at Rome's Brazilian embassy

8 Feb-22 April. The Brazilian embassy to Italy in Piazza Navona hosts Portinari, la mano senza fine - Collezione del Museu Nacional de Belas Artes di Rio de Janeiro, an exhibition dedicated to one of Brazil's most celebrated modernist painters, Candido Portinari (1903-1962).

On display is a collection of 26 works, including oil paintings and drawings, by the artist who was an important exponent of neo-realism painting and whose work contained strong political and social themes.

Highlights of the exhibition include Portinari's preparatory drawings for the War and Peace panels in the United Nations building in New York, and his award-winning 1935 masterpiece Colhedores De Café which documents migrants working in a coffee plantation.

Organised by the Brazilian Museum, the exhibition is the first exclusive showcase of Portinari’s works in Italy, despite both his parents being Italians who emigrated to Brazil at the end of the 19th century.

Admission to the exhibition is free, for more details see Brazilian embassy website.
