Musical theatre, theatrical concerts, melody, micro-opera, instrumental theatre, performance, art song and sprechoper are some of the infinite theatre and music combinations in the event entitled Music and its double, directed by Giorgio Battistelli. It includes a special focus on musical chamber theatre, understood as language holding a dialogue with the world. The 12-day programme consists of over 20 events, all-Italian premieres and many commissioned by the Biennale. They are held in Arsenale, Teatro La Fenice and the Teatro Malibran. There is also a section dedicated to symphonic writing, with prestigious orchestras such as the Orchestra del Teatro La Fenice and the Orchestra dellArena di Verona, confirming the decision taken by the Biennale to make use of permanent orchestras to interpret the festivals programmes each year; the Orchestra Nazionale di S. Cecilia and the Orchestra Nazionale della Rai continue their collaboration with the festival.
