Rome's Fiumicino airport reopens Terminal 3

Terminal fully open after two-month closure over fire.

Rome's Fiumicino airport has fully reopened its Terminal 3, used for international flights, which had been partially closed since a major fire on 7 May.

The terminal returned to full operating capacity on 19 July, following more than two months of delays, cancellations, passenger chaos and health problems for staff as a result of the electrical fire.

The area around boarding gate D in Terminal 3 had been closed in alternating phases due to safety concerns, reducing airport capacity to 60 per cent.

Fiumicino mayor Esterino Montino told Italian news agency ANSA that the terminal still requires extensive renovation following the blaze, which destroyed many luxury boutiques.
