Dr Giuseppe Albano is to assume the post of curator of Rome's Keats-Shelley House at the foot of the Spanish Steps from 28 November.

A lecturer and researcher at the British Museum and the Wallace Collection in London, Albano received his early education in Scotland and his PhD from Cambridge University for his research on Victorian poets. He replaces Catherine Payling who left the position at the end of July on her marriage.

Albano has an extensive academic background in English and Scottish poetry and the Romantic poets although he does not have the same administrative and accountancy experience that his precedessor brought to the job.

In her 14 years at the Keats-Shelley House Payling increased the number of visitors each year, instigated a new outreach programmes to Rome
