Fendi will stage fashion show in Roman Forum on 4 July.Luxury fashion house Fendi is to sponsor the €2.5 million restoration of Rome's Temple of Venus and Roma as well as staging a fashion show in the Roman Forum in homage to its late creative director Karl Lagerfeld.The couture catwalk, which will take place on 4 July on the Roman Forum, will be titled The Dawn of Romanity and will comprise 54 looks — one for each year Lagerfeld worked at Fendi.The German fashion designer served as Fendi's creative director from 1965 until his death on 19 February this year.
The collection will reportedly be overseen by Fendi co-designer Silvia Venturini Fendi who described the bond between Fendi and the late German couturier as "the most enduring love story in fashion."
In 2016 Fendi celebrated its 90th birthday with a fashion show at Rome's Trevi Fountain whose €2 million restoration it funded.Believed to have been the largest temple in ancient Rome, the Tempio di Venere e Roma was dedicated to the goddesses Venus Felix (Venus the Bringer of Good Fortune) and Roma Aeterna (Eternal Rome). Its construction began in 121 under Emperor Hadrian and it was completed in 141. The news of its restoration comes as an increasing number of Italian fashion brands step in to restore landmark sites in Rome.Gucci is to provide €1.6 million for the restoration of Rome's Tarpeian Rock in a two-year project due for completion in 2021.
Shoe company Tod's provided €25 million to restore the Colosseum while Fendi spent €2 million on cleaning and repairing the Trevi Fountain, and recently announced a €280,000 project to clean four well-known Rome fountains.
