Springsteen to perform in Rome's Circus Maximus

Bruce Springsteen sets two concert dates in Rome and Milan.

American rocker Bruce Springsteen will perform at Rome's Circus Maximus on 16 July, concluding his European River Tour, according to an announcement by Barley Arts promoters.

Accompanied by the E Street Band, Springsteen's Circus Maximus concert will be his ninth in the capital, folllowing his most recent performance at the Ippodromo delle Capanelle in July 2013. His first Rome concert was at the Stadio Olimpico in June 1988.

The veteran singer, known as "The Boss", is also to perform on 3 July at Milan's S. Siro stadium, marking his sixth concert at the venue.

The River Tour features tracks from his successful 1980 double album The River, as well as other Springsteen classics.

The last big name to perform at the Circus Maximus was The Rolling Stones in June 2014. That concert triggered controversy after it emerged the band paid less than €8,000 for the site – a fraction of the normal charge for major concert venues – leading the city to increase its fee to €200,000.
