L'Ara com'era

25 Aug-31 Oct. History meets technology in this 3D exhibition at Rome's Ara Pacis museum, on display until 31 October. The rich history and legends of Imperial Rome are displayed in an immersive exhibition at the capital's Ara Pacis, using 3D technology to revive the original colours of the museum's altar to peace.

Titled L'Ara Com'era (The Ara as it was), the installation involves "augmented reality" scenes illuminating the first-century AD altar which was commissioned by Emperor Caesar Augustus to celebrate the peace he established throughout the Roman empire.

The exhibition runs every Friday and Saturday night, from 20.45 to midnight. Entry is organised into small groups, each visit lasts about 45 minutes and is available in five languages: Italian, English, French, Spanish and German. Group bookings are also available during the week. For full details see Ara Pacis website.
