Charles Ray: Mountain Lion Attacking a Dog

17 May-2 July. Charles Ray: Mountain Lion Attacking a Dog. At the invitation of the American Academy, leading US sculptor Charles Ray has created a new work exploring the theme of "American Classics."

Ray revisits the Hellenistic sculptural group Lion Attacking a Horse from the Capitoline Museums, transposing it to a Californian wilderness, home to a dwindling population of mountain lions whose existence is under increasing threat from urbanisation.

Preceding the opening of the exhibition on 18 May, the Los Angeles-based sculptor will discuss his innovative approach to contemporary sculpture in two lectures. The first talk will be held at 18.00 on 17 May at Villa Aurelia, Porta S. Pancrazio 1; the second at 18.00 on 18 May at Via Angelo Masina 5, followed immediately afterwards by the launch of his exhibition. Both talks will be in English.

The exhibition is curated by Peter Benson Miller and can be visited until 2 July. For details see website.
