Claudio Abbado conducts Beethoven Symphony 2 and Mendelssohn Lobgesang Symphony.
Mendelssohn wrote the Lobgesang (Hymn of Praise) in 1840 to mark the 400th anniversary of the invention of printing and he described it as a symphony-cantata on the words of the Holy Bible for soloists, chorus and orchestra. The soloists here are Julia Kleiter, Sara Mingardo and Maximilian Schmitt.
