Rome's Casa del Cinema in Villa Borghese is showing a series of classic films, some of them in English with Italian subtitles, in honour of the 100th anniversary of Universal and Paramount movie studios.
The first is Roman Polanski's acclaimed 1974 movie "Chinatown", starring Jack Nicholson and Faye Dunaway, being screened outdoors in English on Sunday 2 September at 21.00.
Next is Michael Cimino's 1973 classic "The Deer Hunter", starring Robert De Niro, Christopher Walken and Meryl Streep, screened outdoors in English, on Monday 9 September at 21.00.
Meanwhile "Harvey", starring James Stewart, is being screened in Italian on 2 October at 19.30, and again on 7 October at 16.00.
The final film of the series is also in Italian: Alfred Hitchcock's 1963 horror movie, "The Birds", on 9 October at 19.30 and again on 14 October at 16.00.
In addition, lovers of Shakespeare might be interested in comparing two versions of "As You Like It", both screened in English, outdoors: the fist is Kenneth Branagh's 2006 tribute to the Bard, being screened on Monday 3 September, followed by the 1936 version starring Laurence Olivier on 10 September.
Both films comprise the end of this summer's Shakespeare al Cinema initiative, and both are being screened at 21.00.
