Scotland face Italy in Rome for Six Nations rugby

Scottish rugby fans arrive in Rome as Italy takes on Scotland in Six Nations.

Scotland plays against Italy at Rome’s Olympic Stadium on Saturday 27 February at 15.25 as part of the annual Six Nations rugby union championship.

Round three of the tournament will see both Scotland and Italy searching for their first win in the 17th edition of the rugby union championship – which is also contested by England, France, Ireland and Wales.

Adding to the Scottish atmosphere in the stadium will be several bands of pipers and drummers, including the City of Rome Pipe Band, on hand to belt out the Scottish anthem Flower of Scotland just before the game.

In the opening match of the first round on 6 February, Italy narrowly lost out to an historic away win against France with a final score of 23-21, while the second round on 14 February saw England thrash the Azzurri 40-9 in Rome.

Italy are pinning their hopes on the fitness of fly-half Carlo Canna to play against a "well-organised and well-coached" Scotland whose last Six Nations victory came in Rome in 2014 when Duncan Weir kicked a last-gasp drop-goal for a 21-20 win.

Both teams are currently languishing at the bottom of the league table which is topped by England, followed by France, Wales and defending champions Ireland.

For those unable to attend see England play Italy at the Olympic Stadium, here is a short list of the best bars in the city to watch the games. The largest screens are guaranteed at Scholars Lounge and the Druid’s Rock; for lively atmosphere (particular for the Italy matches) head to The Shamrock or Camden Town; while the city’s English, Irish, Welsh, Scottish and French rugby fans can be found mingling with Italian regulars at pubs such as the Fiddler’s Elbow and Finnegans.
