Rome sea "heavily polluted"
Sea water around Rome more polluted than last year.
The sea around Rome is "heavily polluted" according to an annual report by Italian environmental association Legambiente which described the situation in the capital as “absolutely worse than last summer.”
The Goletta Verde study found that the water was most polluted by bacteria where rivers or canals met the sea.
It identifed the worst affected areas as Cerveteri, Ladispoli, Fiumicino, Ostia, Pomezia-Torvajanica, and Ardea.
The Goletta Verde campaign has monitored pollution levels along the Italian coastline for more than 30 years.
