Rome opposes violence against women

Rome supports International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women

The façade of Rome's City Hall will be illuminated with red lights and an image of a hand with the slogan "Stop violence against women" on the evening of 25 November, in support of the UN-backed International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women.

Titled Romadiceno! (Rome says no!) the initiative begins at 17.00 and is being overseen by Enel Sole, the public and artistic lighting section of Italian energy supplier Enel (Ente nazionale per l'energia electrica).

From 17.00 to 19.00 Piazza del Campidoglio will host a number of associations whose programme Donne in piazza. La violenza ci costa…la vita includes lectures, encounters and mini theatrical productions. Some of Rome's cultural venues such as Palazzo delle Esposizioni, Nuovo Cinema Aquila, Teatro Argentina, Teatro del Lido and city libraries will also be devoted to a series of cultural events and debates opposing violence against women.

Over the last few weeks the city has also been promoting the NoiNo campaign whose aim is to force men into realising that any form of aggressive or derogatory behaviour against women is completely unacceptable.

The Lazio region in collaboration with the department of culture and youth policies promotes a daylong cultural programme in Lazio towns including Latina, Bassiano, Fondi, Priverno and Aprilia. For more details see the Comune di Roma website.
