Rome museums free on first Sunday each month

City museums free to Rome residents.

Rome's civic museums are open free of charge to Rome residents on the first Sunday of every month, with the next edition of Domenica al Museo taking place on 7 June.

Italy's culture minister Dario Franceschini recently appealed to the city's private museums to participate in the intiative which is part of last summer's shake-up of visiting rules for Italian museums and monuments.

The reorganisation also provided free admission to seven lesser-known Rome museums, whose loss of ticket revenue was balanced by increased ticket prices at the city's bigger museums.

For details of participating museums see the Beni Culturali website.
