Throughout Italy state-run museums are open to women on 6-7 March (a weekend) free of charge as a way of celebrating women who have contributed to all the arts.
Since 1911, 8 March has been International Women’s Day – a day to celebrate women’s achievements all over the world. This day is celebrated as Festa della Donna in Italy, and the traditional gift is a bunch of mimosas.
In Rome, The Professional Women’s Association, a networking organisation, is marking the day with a trip to a production of Abelardo e Eloisa Prigionieri d’Amore at the Basilica di S. Elia, Castel S. Elia and a mediaeval themed dinner afterwards on Sunday 7 March. For more information, contact email@example.com.
