Venti di Libertà (literally meaning “winds of freedom”, but also a pun on the Italian for 20), organized by the city council in conjunction with the Goethe-Institut and other national and international cultural and political institutions, includes performances, exhibitions, conferences and debates among other things.
7 November sees the opening of Via Libera – Viva la Libertà at Macro Future. The exhibition, running until 31 January 2010, features historical television documentary film footage, photographs and other as yet unpublished material including a selection of videos and photographs taken by private citizens before, during and after the fall of the wall. Macro Future, Piazza Orazio Giustiniani 4, tel. 06671070400. Tues-Sun 16.00-00.00. Mon closed.
On the same day at 19.30 in Trajan’s markets there will be an evening of dance and music, readings and video screenings under the title Ogni Muro Primo o poi Cade. The evening is divided into four 28-minute parts, each representing the 28 years of existence of the Berlin wall, the most visible symbol of the Cold War, from its construction in 1961 to its fall in 1989.
Then on 9 November at 11.00 Rome mayor Gianni Alemanno will inaugurate the multimedia installation Un Muro Percepito on the Spanish Steps involving the reconstruction of two tracts of the 155-km wall. This will be followed at 18.30 by a performance event in Piazza di Spagna under the title Verso (per) la Libertà.
Other related events will continue throughout the month of November and beyond.
