Mother Teresa memorabilia

A musical celebrating the life of the late Mother Teresa of Calcutta is being performed in Rome to coincide with her beatification on Sun 19 Oct by Pope John Paul II. The show combines songs and dance routines with scenes depicting the Albanian-born nun's work among the sick and needy of India. Mother Teresa, who died in 1997, is played by 22-year-old Giada Nobile. "Madre Teresa: Il musical" is at the Teatro Brancaccio, Via Merulana 244, from 14-19 Oct; for information tel. 0647824893-0694074004. The Vatican has issued a set of stamps to commemorate the beatification of Mother Teresa, and souvenir shops in the city state are already full of Mother Teresa rosaries and key rings. Meanwhile, the Missionaries of Charity, the order founded by the late nun, has arranged for samples of her blood to go on display at the basilica of S. Giovanni in Laterano in Rome 20-22 Oct.
