Drivers and travellers in the centre of Rome can expect more disruptions over the coming weeks due to new roadworks on Via Nazionale.

The road is being resurfaced for the second time in less than a year after contractors did a poor job first time round. Stretches of the road were left uneven and dangerous as a result.

The city council has now recalled the same firms to remedy the situation at their own expense. The new work will involve removing the cobblestones on the uneven stretches, levelling the underlying road surface and putting the cobblestones back again.

The new work got underway on 24 February. It is not clear how long it will take.
