Man "sails" vintage Maserati on Tiber in Rome

Converted Maserati cruises along Rome's Tiber.

Rome police have cautioned a man travelling in a specially converted car-boat on the river Tiber, according to reports in local media on 29 September.

The 40-year-old Italian man at the helm of the vintage Maserati was pulled over by police between Rome's Ponte Vittorio Emanuele and Ponte Milvio, while his unorthodox vehicle was removed from the river by a fire-fighting unit.

The vessel had an outboard motor and open roof, allowing its captain to stand while making his way down the river.

The man informed police that he was trying to make his way to Venice.
