Matteo Renzi pushes for nomination to form a new government

Italian premier Enrico Letta resigned at 14.00 on Friday 14 February after tendering his resignation to Italy's president Giorgio Napolitano.

Letta announced his decision to resign on Thursday 13 February following a motion of no confidence from his centre-left Partito Democratico (PD) and pressure from its new leader Matteo Renzi. On Thursday the party
