A series of events, exhibitions, cinema screenings and debates to remember the millions who died in the holocaust are currently underway for the 2006 Settimana della Memoria, 23-30 January. On the Giorno della Memoria itself, fixed each year on 27 January, the Radio3 cultural afternoon show Farenheit will broadcast a special show from the Teatro di Tor Bella Monaca entitled Imparare La Memoria at 15.00-18.45. Hundreds of Roman students have visited Nazi extermination camps as part of the Noi Ricordiamo initiative, which since 2001 has organised trips for children from istituti superiori and scuole medie to Auschwitz, where they are accompanied by holocaust survivors. A new book about their voyage, I nuovi testimoni. Gli studenti romani raccontano Auschwitz, will be discussed during the broadcast.
The city will also inaugurate a permanent memorial in the form of a website, www.ricordoroma.it, which will provide a virtual museum for the citys memories. The site will be active from 5 February.
