Labour unions in Italy have called a 24-hour general strike on 23 October over budget cuts to education and other sectors, job cuts and working conditions generally.

The strike will mean disruptions to public transport services, health services, schools and other public services across the country although different sectors will be affected in different ways.

Disruptions can be expected to national railway services for four hours from 11.00-15.00.

In Rome buses and trams will be on strike from 08.30 to 17.00 and then from 20.00 until the end of service.
