Facelift for Via Veneto.

Via Veneto, one of the most famous streets in Rome during the 1950s and 1960s, in the glorious hey-day of La Dolce Vita, is due to be restyled. A project that has been ready since 2002 is about to be dusted off and implemented so that the works will be complete in time for the first edition of the Rome International film festival due to take place in the autumn of 2006 at the Auditorium Parco della Musica and at the new city council film centre, the Casina delle Rose in the Villa Borghese.

Work will begin in January and will include the renewal and centralization of all the services under ground in the street, drains, gas and electricity. In April work will begin above ground with the widening of the pavements and the installation of newly designed flower beds and lighting. One of the aims of the restyling is that the public will be able to walk from the Via Veneto into the Villa Borghese park without having to cross a busy and dangerous road
