Enjoy scooter sharing launches in Rome

Rome scooter sharing system operated exclusively via Enjoy app.

The Enjoy scooter sharing system launches in Rome on 15 June with 100 Piaggio Mp3 three-wheeled vehicles, with plans to increase the fleet to 300 soon.

The scooter sharing scheme, which is operated exclusively via the latest version of the Enjoy smartphone app, comes to Rome 11 months after 150 Enjoy scooters were introduced in Milan.

The cost for using an Enjoy scooter is 35 cent a minute, somewhat more than the 25 cent per minute for Enjoy car sharing, which launched in Rome two years ago.

One of the main differences between the two sharing schemes is that, unlike the Enjoy cars which can reach some of Rome's furthest suburbs, the scooters are confined to a 52-sqkm area around the city centre.

The red-coloured scooters, which have a maximum speed of 90 km/h, have two wheels in front and one behind, and each vehicle comes with two helmets. Users must be aged at least 21 and possess either an Italian driving licence (types A and B) or a foreign licence that is recognised by Enjoy.

The process from registering to rental is completed using the app. Those already registered with Enjoy car sharing just need to update their details on the Enjoy website.

Together with Rome's Enjoy cars the scooter sharing system, which was developed in partnership with Gruppo Piaggio and Trenitalia, will increase the Enjoy fleet in the capital to 900.

Since the launch of Enjoy over two years ago, there are more than 470,000 registered users in Milan, Rome, Florence and Turin, and the company says that 25,000 people have already registered for the Rome scooter sharing service.
