Crack down on illegal traders.
The Rome city authorities have agreed to crack down on illegal street traders in the city. The decision to take firm action follows complaints from shop keepers in the central areas of the city that they are losing custom to the illegal traders. It is suspected that criminal organisations are controlling many of the immigrant traders who sell illegal, fake designer goods.
For the next few weeks police will patrol the city streets more vigorously, and closed circuit television cameras will be installed in the 16 streets most at risk.
