The Teatro dell’Opera’s crowd-pleasing summer season opens at the magnificent Caracalla Baths lights-up the nights yet again with a line-up dance, opera, music and a little extra. The season is inaugurated with a production of the romantic ballet Giselle starring the world class ballerina Svetalana Zacharova (30 June-8 July). Then the orchestra and choir of the Teatro dell’Opera di Roma are joined by the St Petersburg Philharmonic Orchestra and Yuri Temirkanov on the podium for a performance of Prokofiev’s Alexander Nevsky with videos and sets by Pier’Alli (7 July). Opera takes to the stage with the production of a new work by Giorgio Battistelli (who has incorporated music by Monteverdi) entitled Il Combattimento di Tancredi e Clorinda (10-15 July), followed by Norma by Bellini (21 July-8 Aug) and Attila by Verdi (31 July-7 Aug). Two extra events are represented by ballet super star Roberto Bolle on stage with other soloists for a gala evening (20 July), and popular Roman actor and comedien Gigi Proietti in a one-man show (16, 30 July).
