Trastevere

Near to the centre, Trastevere can be defined as the most "Roman" of the districts, even though it is now easier to meet foreigners than Romans living here. Characterized by numerous pedestrian islands it is one of the most vital zones in the capital, above all for its the nightlife. You can find numerous cafes and restaurants as you stroll its narrow streets. Connected to the centre by a tram, which also stops at Trastevere railway station, it is an ideal district for whoever wants to try the Roman way of life. They are many different local street markets, for example in Piazza S. Cosimato. Situated across the Tiber from the historic centre below the Gianicolo, one of the seven hills of Rome, Trastevere has a pleasant atmosphere for foreign visitors.
